Pupis and the Use of the internet Empty
PostSubject: Pupis and the Use of the internet   Pupis and the Use of the internet EmptyFri Jan 23, 2009 10:06 am

The overhelming majority of our pupils are attracted by the internet. Sure it is a good thing but we are sometimes shocked by what is being said about the 'bad sites' they consult. Some are addict.
These sites are our enemies because they destruct what we are building.
A careful and thoughtful teacher can remark this negative effect through the behaviour change of the pupils provided that he targets that.

We can do many things to ' cease the fire':

- Talk to the pupils.
- Prepare a list of ' fruitful sites' and communicate them to the pupils.
- Organise an awareness compaign in the school. Choose good pupils.
- Make the 'problem' a subject of discussion during 'Parents' or 'Teachers' meeting'.

Our mission is not limited to teaching, we are expected to be educators as well.

One of the sites that can be recommanded to the pupils is the following:

http://eng43.tripod.com/

I entreat my colleagues to look for the best sites for teachers and pupils and communicate it.

Pupis and the Use of the internet Empty
PostSubject: A thorny issue in fact...   Pupis and the Use of the internet EmptyFri Jan 23, 2009 3:13 pm

Salam!!

Jasakum Allah kyairan for raising this issue! Yes, I really share all that you've said. EDUCATION!
Teaching and Educating are two faces of the same coin. I can't imagine a teacher wholy concerned by the lesson, without praparing the 'receiver' of the lesson.
To keep something safe, one should ensure that the 'container' or the destination is parasit-free.
Our children are victims of the carelessness of parents and teachers alike.
Much should be said in this respect. On my part I oriented my pupils to consult www.go4english.com

It's a good idea to make a compaign in order not to limit our advice to our own classes only.

Something as important as the one you've raised is the mobile phone that 99% of our pupils use without the parents' control. Some parents even don't know that their 'daughters' have mobile phones...
But one shouldn't lose hope. We have to take our pupils in charge and talk to them as we do with our children. It's an every day process; pupils even confess that this helps them know good from evil.

One may say that we have no time to do that and I'll openly and strongly reply that this is Education. Since we are doomed to be educators, whether it's our choice or not, we have to 'tackle' it honestly.

Many thanks for the links.

Salam!
