Pronunciation of the final 's' Empty
PostSubject: Pronunciation of the final 's'   Pronunciation of the final 's' EmptyWed Feb 25, 2009 7:16 pm

Pronunciation is one of the most difficult tasks for teachers and learners. Because of that, we should start at the very beginning leading the pupils smoothly to acquire new competencies and mastery of this important feature. To do this, we should be aware of what to do; moreover we need to be able to implement it.
File four is the step where pupils learn the present simple to express routines. They will also be face to face with the plural of nouns. So they need to learn how to get rid of the confusion between's' third person and's' plural.
It is a very good job to help learners be aware of the fact that the final's' is used in plays because it is the third person singular (he / she / it / Salim / the boy...) and this verb is conjugated in the present simple expressing routines.
It is another good job if we help them make the difference between the final's' in plays and the final's' in cats, meaning the plural of the noun cat.

The procedure:
These are the steps I have chosen to follow.

1-I made the pupils brainstorm as many verbs as possible. We prepared a list together. Then, the pupils put that list in their portfolio for further use. After two or three weeks, this list could include almost all the verbs seen till now.

2-During the presentation of file three and four, the pupils were given opportunities to repeat and use the verbs.

3- I presented the plural form of nouns in file three :

-cat cats -tomato tomatoes

4- After practice in class, I gave the pupils the following worksheet to practice the pronunciation of the final's' with nouns:

The pupils were expected to do it in groups / pairs outside the classroom.

5-While presenting the first part of file four, sequence two, lesson two
I provided the pupils with the following worksheet to practice the pronunciation of the final's' with verbs:

The pupils were expected to do it in groups/ pairs outside the classroom.

Tips: Teacher must instruct the pupils that they should work with the verbs they know because this can be the whole school year worksheet.

Help the pupils practice, achieve and discuss their achievement for more language understanding and mastery.

Best of luck.

Mohamed07.
