More and More Errata in Book One Empty
PostSubject: More and More Errata in Book One   More and More Errata in Book One EmptyFri Nov 21, 2008 1:47 pm

No doubt that punctuation is important and it is a target to be taught to our pupils.
What I can't understand is how these mistakes are made. On purpose?
I don't think so.
Another time, it is up to the teacher to help the pupils to correct it.
File 5 Sequence 1 page 104 activity b) contains mistakes :

Sentence 1: I m hungry, I want a steak and spaghetti.
punc

Sentence 2: I m thirsty ; I want a glass of water.
punc punc

In sentence 1 and 2: no apostrophe
In sentence 2: a semi colon instead of the comma in sentence 1. Any difference between them?

File 5 page 110. activity b)

Don ts - no apostrophe.

Illustration.

It is really laughable when it comes to talk about illustration in Book One. Not only because children love pictures but because illustrating an idea or an item is becoming very important in all types of publications: ''Pictures speak louder than words''. Yes, but good pictures.

Look at File5 Sequence 2 page 107.

Recipe 3 about the omelette.

Read the ingredients carefully then have a look at the illustration.
Have you ever seen a greenish omelette?
No, because according to the ingredients, there are neither spinach nor other herbs mentioned or used.

Nonsense.

File5 Sequence 3 Page 113. activity b)

The pupils are asked to rearrange the letters to get names of food. Look at the sixth one: CELLUTE
Which word can be made? Lettuce?
What's this puzzle?
Poor Algerian Pupils.

More and More Errata in Book One Empty
PostSubject: It's the result of indifference!   More and More Errata in Book One EmptySat Nov 22, 2008 1:22 am

Salam!

The teacher should always be very careful, have a negative eye and develop the pupils' negative eye too. The Algerian book has always been a failure since it has never been mistake-free.
As for illustrations, the four books are not attractive at all. The choice of colours and pictures is of great importance, especially for young learners.
Concerning punctuation, I really want to know which one is correct in the two mentioned examples, the comma or the semi-colon.
I'm hungry.... I want some....

I think that the semi-colon would be more suitable here.

Of course, the mistakes aren't made on purpose, but they are rather the result of indifference!!!

In the end thanks a million for your valuable analysis.
