I've lead a survey about "Use and Usefulness of the MS Textbooks". Many teachers took part objectively. I've recorded the following results and comments:

- 90 % see that these books are becoming more and more useless due to different factors.

- 70% are convinced that the contents are almost obsolete and should be updated.

- 40% don't like the books at all but don't know what and how to do because of financial and administrative constraints.

- 20% say that when they use handouts, learners feel more motivated and involved.

- 10% say that when they use the data show or the overhead projector, the lesson is more successful.

In the light of this, we need to make a choice whether keep on using these textbooks or find the right substitute. We've to make the right choice:

Choice A: Keep on using these books.

- Oblige the pupils to buy a book they'll rarely use.
- Be all the time in trouble.
- Be out of date.
- Be all the time a slave of the book.
-Lack creativity and love for the job.

Choice B: Find the right substitute.

- Innovate and be realistic.
- Be creative and up to date.
- Reasonable and wise efforts.
- Use handouts/ the overhead projector/ the dta show/flashcards/pictures...
- Vary the resources.

Opt for A and you'll get more and more bored.
Opt for B, you'll be tired but satisfied.

The textbook is a reference, but not the only one to refer to during the learning course.
Whether it is useful or not, variation is highly needed and advisable.
The teacher is the transmitter of knowledge and so, his/her prints should mark the learning situation.
Creativeness, flexibility, endeavour and perseverance are vital factors, which success is strongly based on.
Yes, and undoubtedly, our books have proved to be a failure in terms of content, accuracy and layout. The teacher is really facing a serious problem being ‘left to his/her own devices’, deciding on what to teach and what not, what should take precedence over what, and most important, how to do.
Many activities included within the textbooks are irrelevant, which make the books not only unworthy, but too exhausting and time-wasting as well.
Consequently, Choice Two is the one, one should opt for:
Find the right substitute.
- Innovate and be realistic.
- Be creative and up to date.
- Reasonable and wise efforts.
- Use handouts/ the overhead projector/ the data show/flashcards/pictures...
Your work reflects a lot of seriousness and a strong will to change things for the better. It must have taken too much time with serious efforts. Congratulations for your efforts in teaching and about teaching.
