Future Simple Verb Tense
There are a few different ways to state future actions or future events.
1. Present Continuous Verb Tense is used to state future events or actions when it is clearly stated or understood that the action or event is in the future.
* to describe planes that have be arranged before the time of speaking.
o We are traveling to Europe in a few weeks.
o The girls taking the S.A.T. next week.
* the present continuous verb tense is used an informal actions or events
o We are planning to watch T. V. tonight.
o The girls are singing on Friday night at the local club.
* is used to for personal information
o I am finishing my doctorate degree next year.
o We are moving to a new house next week.
* it is not used for official purposes
* the subject of the sentence must be a person, not a thing
* the present continuous tense can't be used to predict a future event or action, based on a present event or action.
* static verbs are not used
2. Present Continuous Verb Tense with "going to" is used:
* to emphases the "intention" of a planned future action or a planed future event.
o We are going to travel to the United States in a few days.
o The girls are going out tonight.
* can be used to predict a future event or action, based on a present event or action
o We are moving to New York in a few days, we are going to be very busy until for the next few weeks.
o Mary is graduating collage next week, we are going to her graduation ceremony.
* actions or events that are obviously going to occur.
o The table leg looks very weak. The table is going to fall any minute.
o It is very dark outside, it is going to rain soon.
* When the present continuous tense is used with "going to" it is understood that event or action is in the future.
* static verbs are not used
3. Future Simple Verb Tense is used:
* to make decisions that are made at the time of speaking
o We will eat dinner today at 6:00PM
o We will clean your room this week.
* to state desire or willingness for something or someone
o The girls will be happy to go on holiday for a few weeks.
o I will be happy to help you today.
* to state a fact about the future
o My teacher will be happy, the whole class passed the test.
o The phone bill will be very very high, my father will be very upset.
* to predicate a future event or action
o I think it will rain this afternoon.
o My sister will be a great teacher.
* to make a formal statement about a future action or event
o The president will make a public announcement on Tuesday at 8:00PM.
o The school will be closed for a few days.
* to make suggestions or state ideas
o We will be happy drive you to the store.
o Will we go to the store tonight or tomorrow morning.
* to make a request
o Will you come with me to the store?
o You will do your homework now.
